ISSAC-5
5th International
Symposium on
Single-Atom Catalysis

28–30 June 2027 | ETH Zurich, Switzerland

From isolated atoms to sustainable catalytic outcomes

Following a successful fourth edition in Singapore, ISSAC returns to bring together the international community shaping the next phase of single-atom and atomically dispersed catalysis Abstract submission will open in September 2026, with opportunities for contributed talks and posters, including strong participation from early-career researchers.

Why Attend

Single-atom catalysis has transformed how we think about active sites. What began with isolated atoms has expanded into a broader field of dynamic structures, complex coordination environments, dual sites, interfaces, and atomically dispersed motifs. ISSAC-5 will bring this community together to discuss the next phase of the field across synthesis, characterization, theory, catalytic function, and emerging applications, with sustainability as a central part of the conversation. The Zurich edition will connect researchers from academia and industry, linking fundamental understanding with practical catalytic challenges and future technology development.

Key Themes

  • Single atoms, dual sites, clusters, and atomically dispersed motifs
  • Synthesis, stabilization, and catalyst design
  • Advanced characterization, operando spectroscopy, and theory
  • Dynamic active sites and structure–performance relationships
  • Thermal, electro-, photo-, and hybrid catalysis
  • Sustainable chemical transformations
  • Industrial perspectives, translation, and community exchange

Organization

ISSAC-5 is organized by NCCR Catalysis and hosted at ETH Zurich.

Symposium Chair: Javier Pérez-Ramírez, ETH Zurich Symposium

Co-chair: Sharon Mitchell, ETH Zurich on behalf of the ISSAC-5 Organizing Committee
